Fluoracaine Drops are used for:
Aiding in certain eye procedures.
Fluoracaine Drops are a combination disclosing agent and local anesthetic. It makes damaged areas of the eye easier to detect. It also works on nerves in the eye to decrease pain.
Do NOT use Fluoracaine Drops if:
- you are allergic to any ingredient in Fluoracaine Drops
Contact your doctor or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you.
Before using Fluoracaine Drops:
Some medical conditions may interact with Fluoracaine Drops. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:
- if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding
- if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement
- if you have allergies to medicines (including other local anesthetics), foods, or other substances
- if you have heart problems or thyroid problems
Some MEDICINES MAY INTERACT with Fluoracaine Drops. Because little, if any, of Fluoracaine Drops are absorbed into the blood, the risk of it interacting with another medicine is low.
Ask your health care provider if Fluoracaine Drops may interact with other medicines that you take. Check with your health care provider before you start, stop, or change the dose of any medicine.
How to use Fluoracaine Drops:
Use Fluoracaine Drops as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.
- Fluoracaine Drops are usually used at your doctor's office, hospital, or clinic. If you will be using Fluoracaine Drops at home, a health care provider will teach you how to use it. Contact your health care provider if you have any questions.
- To prevent germs from contaminating your medicine, do not touch the applicator tip to any surface, including the eye. Keep the container tightly closed.
- If you miss a dose of Fluoracaine Drops, contact your doctor right away.
Ask your health care provider any questions you may have about how to use Fluoracaine Drops.
Important safety information:
Do not use more than the recommended dose or for longer than prescribed without checking with your doctor.
- Fluoracaine Drops will cause the eye to be numb. Do not rub or touch the eye or wear contacts until the numbness goes away.
- Ask your doctor whether you should use an eye patch after using Fluoracaine Drops.
- Fluoracaine Drops may cause drying or cracking of the fingertips if you get it on your hands. Be sure to wash your hands after using Fluoracaine Drops.
- PREGNANCY and BREAST-FEEDING: If you become pregnant while using Fluoracaine Drops, contact your doctor. You will need to discuss the benefits and risks of using Fluoracaine Drops while you are pregnant. It is not known if Fluoracaine Drops are found in breast milk. If you are or will be breast-feeding while you are use Fluoracaine Drops, check with your doctor. Discuss any possible risks to your baby.
Possible side effects of Fluoracaine Drops:
All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON side effects persist or become bothersome:
Temporary burning, stinging, or redness of the eye.
Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur:
Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); gray, ground glass-like appearance of the eye; mental or mood changes; pain, irritation, or persistent redness of the eye; vision changes.

If OVERDOSE is suspected:
Contact 1-800-222-1222 (the American Association of Poison Control Centers), your local poison control center, or emergency room immediately.
Proper storage of Fluoracaine Drops:
Store Fluoracaine Drops in the refrigerator, between 36 and 46 degrees F (2 and 8 degrees C). Do not freeze. Fluoracaine Drops may be stored at room temperature for up to 1 month. Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Keep Fluoracaine Drops out of the reach of children and away from pets.
